Prologue

“It’s been almost ten years Xerxes…you’re running low on wish power.” The head genie, Zephiroth, said.

“I have enough,” I crossed my arms over my chest.

“Enough to last you only a few more days, and that’s only if you use it scarcely.”

“I’ll be fine.” I muttered. Truth was, I wouldn’t be fine. When wish power ran out, you’d lose your status as a genie and become a regular mortal like the other people in the world. A regular person. No instant cleaning, no controlling mortals, no poofing up things with the snap of a few fingers. The horror. I’d have to subject myself to work and that was something not even the lowliest of genies had to endure. To remain a genie, there were a few simple rules.

1)Never reveal yourself as a genie unless you have been summoned out of a lamp.
2)When summoned, you must inform the sim who disturbed your rest, err who summoned you, that they are entitled to three wishes, and due to a particular circumstance, one could not wish for more wishes.
3)  You must grant each wish.
4) After you grant each wish, you must wipe the memory clean of the summoner.
5) Anything the head genie says, goes.

“Granting wishes fills your wish power. The more wish power you have, the more powerful you are as a genie. Have you forgotten?”

“No.” I shook my head. It was something you were taught from the very beginning of your life. Genies grant wishes to keep morale.

“Your parents, would they want you to become a mortal after your father worked so hard to keep your family name afloat? Why aren’t you taking this more seriously?”

“I am! I just don’t need any more power!”

“I won’t let you give up that easily Xerxes, you’re going to do as you’re told and grant that little girl’s wish. I don’t understand why you won’t. It’s been over a decade, her wish needs to be granted now.”

“There is no rule that says when each wish has to be granted. I have until the end of her life cycle to grant her wish.”

“Not anymore. You’re putting the entire genie population in danger!” Zephiroth growled. “Are you forgetting the fourth rule? You must wipe the summoner’s memory after you grant their three wishes. You haven’t granted her third wish and thus could not wipe her memory. You have to end this now before she stops convincing herself that genies aren’t real and that you’re just a dream.”

“Rule number five?” I frowned. Anything the headmaster said, was final. No objections.

“Rule number 5.” Zephiroth nodded.
